Automated processing of point clouds for precise 3D models of motorways!

Automated processing of point clouds for precise 3D models of motorways!

Vermessungsbüro Rink GbR, Lang&Lang GmbH and ioLabs AG have started a cooperation to revolutionise the digitisation of motorways.

The aim is to automate the creation of digital models for large-scale, linear infrastructure such as motorways by combining 3D scanning, AI-supported data processing and modular workflows.

The project uses high-precision LiDAR scans and automated point cloud processing to convert thousands of kilometres of motorway into detailed, CAD- and GIS-compatible 3D models. This enables virtually manual intervention-free, efficient integration of digital data and improves infrastructure management.

Thanks to the collaboration between these three companies, the processing of large amounts of data is accelerated, accuracy is increased and existing workflows are optimised. 3D scanners, AI and advanced software solutions enable the precise recording and documentation of motorway sections in the shortest possible time.

This technology paves the way for an intelligent and future-proof infrastructure!

Audit-ready for ESG building data with a minimal BIM approach

ESG reporting is now a standard expectation for real estate owners and facility managers. Yet one of the most common obstacles is the lack of structured, verifiable building data to support it. The good news: in most cases, that data already exists — and ioFM turns it into a single source of truth.

Point clouds are accurate but hard to use. Meshes are powerful but heavy. This article compares point clouds, meshes, and Gaussian splats, and explains when splats enable faster, smoother, photoreal previews.
