Effortless and seamless transfer of Plancal Nova documentation into a fully attributed Revit BIM model.
In response to our client's request for a sophisticated conversion of flawed Plancal Nova documentation into a fully attributed Revit BIM model, we successfully executed a comprehensive project. Our approach involved a series of steps to achieve the desired outcome: we began by exporting a set of MEP models from Plancal Nova, using IFCs as the format for transfer. These exported IFCs were then imported into Revit for further BIM processing. To ensure seamless integration, we recreated the input IFC geometry as editable native Revit elements while transferring the metadata to the new elements.
Through the implementation of scripts for automation, we achieved increased efficiency throughout the workflow. The end result was the creation of 30 separate Revit models, categorized according to MEP disciplines and floors, all interconnected. We successfully transferred a remarkable number of more than 29 000 elements representing MEP routes and devices. The resulting Revit BIM model incorporated complex MEP systems, complete with metadata, making it compatible with various tools within the Autodesk Environment, such as BIM 360, Autodesk issues, and Forge.
Although this project is just a part of a larger campus model, our achievement received positive feedback from the client. Future plans include the development of a comprehensive digital model for the entire campus, containing metadata for each building.
